International House
The course I took was the brainchild of an extraordinary innovator called John Haycraft, who set up special pre-service courses with a solidly practical focus to enable people to do professionally what many had previously done as enthusiastic amateurs. This was the course that became, later, the famous CELTA qualification, administered all over the world by Cambridge ESOL. International House was then (and still is) one of the dominant organisations in British TEFL (and is now one of a world-wide network of schools called the International House World organisation.)
