Mexico

After completing the course I worked at International House for eight or nine months before heading out to Mexico with my Mexican-born girlfriend – later wife - to work for the Instituto Anglo-Mexicano de Cultura, now known as The Anglo, and part of the Anglo Mexican Foundation. It was here that I started to get really serious about language teaching, largely due to the influence of the director general of the institution, Walter Plumb, and my immediate boss, Richard Rossner. I gradually became involved in teacher training, and started to develop what was to become a passionate interest in teaching methodology. Whilst in Mexico I also recorded a record of language-teaching songs called English Tea.
