The essence of good teaching

At the 2008 IATEFL conference I led a Pearson event called 'the essence of good teaching'. Using voting technology linked to a Promethean Interactive Whiteboard, participants discussed and voted on a number of propositions on the subject of how teachers develop - how good teachers become great teachers.

It was an enjoyable session (I think), though marred by a technical hitch which meant that we could not watch a teaching film we had hoped to start with. Nevertheless, the participants seemed to enjoy the business of voting, and you can see how they voted by clicking here.

What do you think? How do good teachers become great teachers?
