Steve’s biography
Steve studied violin at the Royal College of Music in London, where he won various prizes. Whilst there he formed the renowned Bingham String Quartet, which is notable for its playing of both classical and contemporary music. The Bingham Quartet has recorded a number of CDs and has travelled extensively in the UK, continental Europe and Australia. They are well-known for the educational work.
Steve has guest-lead many of the UK’s most important orchestras, and has performed major concertos by composers from Bach to Mendelssohn, from Prokofiev to Sibelius. He has given solo recitals over the world.
In recent years Steve has developed his interest in improvisation, electronics and World music, collaborating with several notable musicians including guitarist Jason Carter and players such as Sanju Vishnu Sahai (tabla), Baluji Shrivastav (sitar) and Abdullah Ibrahim (piano). He has appeared on two World music CDs with Jason Carter and the fusion group Ragatal. Steve's debut solo CD Duplicity was released in November 2005.
Steve’s interests include ornithology, photography and Celtic knotwork.
