Filming teachers

What's it like being filmed? Does it do any good? And what can both viewer and the film 'subject' get from the experience? In this section we will look at these issues.

In the first clip a teacher, Louise, after having watched film of herself teaching, is responding to my question 'what was it like to see yourself on the screen?' This interview is taken from the filming we did for the teaching DVD which accompanies the book How to Teach English

In the second clip you can hear me get all (genuinely) enthusiastic about the benefits of teacher filming as a form of development in a workshop given at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain - based aroud a filmed lesson which accompanies The Practice of English Language Teaching. Those who want to follow up the slightly inaccurate - but heartfelt - description of Rosie Tanner's work may want to read her own short account of video coaching in 'IATEFL 2007: Aberdeen conference Selections' edited by Briony Beaven, and published by IATEFL. This is an invaluable compliation of the many fantastic plenaries, presentations and workshops that were offered in Aberdeen. You can buy it and other conference selection here.
